Copyright, Fair Use, Content ID & Music Licensing

A creator's client channel is outside the whitelist even though the agency purchased the underlying music license.

Problem

A creator's client channel is outside the whitelist even though the agency purchased the underlying music license.

Solution

Root Cause / Diagnostic:
Marketing agencies and production houses regularly purchase commercial music licenses under their corporate account but publish the final media deliverable onto a client's separate YouTube channel. Because the client's channel ID was never registered on the agency's licensing whitelist, YouTube's Content ID engine flags the client's video for copyright infringement. This causes severe friction between the agency and client over perceived licensing incompetence.

Actionable Fix:
1. Generate a project-specific "Client Clearance Link" or single-use license certificate from the agency's commercial music portal and assign it to the client's channel ID.
2. In the agency music dashboard, temporarily register the client's channel ID (UC...) or utilize the vendor's dedicated "Client Whitelist / Clear a Video" feature.
3. Provide the client's social media management team with the PDF license certificate and pre-written dispute text for any claims received prior to clearinghouse sync.

Pro Tip:
Build client channel whitelisting directly into your agency project onboarding workflow; clear client channel IDs before rendering final master deliverables to ensure day-one monetization.
