Scripting, Hook Architecture & Storytelling

The hook describes what the creator is going to discuss instead of what the viewer will understand, decide, or achieve.

Problem

The hook describes what the creator is going to discuss instead of what the viewer will understand, decide, or achieve.

Solution

Root Cause / Diagnostic:
Creator-centric openings ("In this video I want to talk about my thoughts on...") place the focus on the presenter rather than the audience's goals. Unless the creator already possesses massive personal celebrity, casual viewers have zero inherent interest in what a stranger wants to discuss.

Actionable Fix:
1. Invert Narration from "I" to "You": Rewrite the opening line to focus entirely on viewer agency, outcomes, and decisions (e.g., replace "I'm going to show you my camera settings" with "You will master these 3 camera settings to double your image sharpness").
2. Strip Meta-Commentary: Eliminate all references to the video format itself ("Welcome back to the channel," "In today's video," "I decided to make this").
3. Script Focus Audit: Scan the first 50 words of the script and ensure "you/your" outnumbers "I/me/my" by at least three to one.

Pro Tip:
Viewers do not click to hear you talk; they click to transform themselves. Make the viewer the hero of the opening sentence and your retention will immediately climb.
