Root Cause / Diagnostic:
Mismatch between the camera's HDMI quantization range (Limited 16–235 vs. Full 0–255) and the monitor's input setting leads to clipped shadow details or elevated, washed-out black levels. If the monitor expects Full range while receiving Limited, blacks appear crushed and contrast unnaturally harsh.

Actionable Fix:
1. Align the HDMI Dynamic Range settings on both devices: set the camera HDMI output to 'Full (0-255)' or 'Auto' and match the external monitor input explicitly to 'Full Range'.
2. Use an onboard waveform monitor or false color tool on the external display to verify that 0% IRE corresponds to absolute black without clipping shadow detail at 16 IRE.
3. Display a standardized 10-step grayscale chart and confirm smooth transition across all luminance steps from 0 to 255 without abrupt posterization.

Pro Tip:
When shooting in Log profiles (S-Log3, C-Log, V-Log), most professional production monitors expect legal/limited range (64–940 in 10-bit); always verify whether your monitor's internal LUT operates in Legal or Extended data levels.
