Solution

Root Cause / Diagnostic:
Placing a boom mic close to a hard drywall ceiling allows ceiling sound reflections to enter the capsule along with direct voice. These short-delay reflections create destructive acoustic interference (comb filtering) that thins out dialogue.

Actionable Fix:
1. Angle the boom lower so the capsule maintains at least 30 cm (12 inches) clearance from the ceiling boundary.
2. Affix 50mm acoustic absorption foam or a sound blanket directly to the ceiling zone immediately above the boom position.
3. Listen for hollow 'tunnel' timbre on dialogue; verify rich, solid vocal body once ceiling reflections are attenuated.

Pro Tip:
When ceiling height is restricted, boom from below the frame aiming up at talent's mouth to exploit floor absorption and avoid ceiling bounce.
