Inserted product renders have a different shadow direction from the background lighting.

Problem

Inserted product renders have a different shadow direction from the background lighting.

Solution

Root Cause / Diagnostic:
Compositing product 3D renders with lighting baked on the left into a background plate lit from the right creates conflicting light-source physics. Even non-technical viewers intuitively sense that the image is a cheap, manipulated composite.

Actionable Fix:
1. Identify the primary key light vector in the background scene (angle, elevation, and hardness) and mirror or re-render the 3D product asset to match that exact illumination angle.
2. Cast matching directional drop shadows onto adjacent surfaces using a multi-layer soft brush with blend mode set to Multiply at 60%–80% opacity.
3. Cross-reference shadow angles using an overlaid vector line between light source and cast shadows to confirm physical alignment.

Pro Tip:
Match both key-light angle and shadow softness: hard sun backgrounds require crisp contact shadows, while overcast backgrounds require diffuse, spread-out occlusion shadows.
