Problem
Camera-generated proxy files use filenames that collide with independently generated editorial proxies.
Solution
Root Cause / Diagnostic:
Modern mirrorless and cinema cameras can simultaneously record high-bitrate raw master files and low-resolution proxy files onto separate SD cards. However, in-camera proxy generators frequently assign identical base filenames (e.g., 'A001_C001.MOV') or differing proprietary naming patterns that conflict with editorial proxies generated in post. When an NLE attempts automated proxy attachment, filename collisions and mismatched folder hierarchies cause proxies to link to the wrong camera takes.
Actionable Fix:
1. Establish strict proxy folder organization during card offload: store in-camera proxies in an isolated '/InCamera_Proxies' subdirectory separate from camera originals.
2. In the NLE proxy attachment dialog, ensure matching rules evaluate both 'File Name' and 'Tape Name / Reel Name' along with start timecodes.
3. Toggle proxy playback on and off on the timeline while inspecting frame details to confirm that proxies match the exact framing and take content of the camera original.
Pro Tip:
If camera proxy naming does not follow industry standards, generate proxies post-shoot using DaVinci Resolve or Adobe Media Encoder with standardized '_Proxy' filename suffixing.
