An NLE cannot decode a camera's proprietary RAW variant without a newer codec component than the installed version.

Camera manufacturers regularly release updated proprietary RAW color science variants (such as RED IPP2, ARRI RAW 4.0, Canon Cinema RAW Light, or Sony X-OCN updates). When an NLE's underlying raw decoding SDK is outdated, the application cannot interpret new metadata header flags or debayer the image stream. The NLE either displays missing media errors, renders black frames, or crashes immediately upon clip import.
