Color management applies a transform twice when a clip already contains a baked-in LUT.

Problem

Color management applies a transform twice when a clip already contains a baked-in LUT.

Solution

Root Cause / Diagnostic:
Double color transformation occurs when a project-wide color management system (e.g., automatic Rec.709 conversion) is active while an individual clip simultaneously has a camera-lut or technical LUT applied in clip settings. The software converts the Log image to Rec.709 twice, crushing shadow details into pure black, blowing out highlight details, and oversaturating skin tones into radioactive orange.

Actionable Fix:
1. Inspect clip properties and clear any active 'Input LUT' or 'Camera LUT' applied in the basic Lumetri or media clip interpretation settings.
2. Verify project-wide color management settings to confirm whether color conversion is handled automatically at sequence level or manually via node-based CSTs.
3. Check the waveform luminance monitor: verify that baseline mid-gray sits at 40-45% and black levels rest cleanly on 0% without crushed clipping.

Pro Tip:
Standardize your pipeline on either node-based manual Color Space Transforms (CST) or full-project ACES management; never mix manual clip LUTs with automatic project color management.
