Long timelines accumulate disabled clips and hidden tracks that make version auditing unreliable.

Problem

Long timelines accumulate disabled clips and hidden tracks that make version auditing unreliable.

Solution

Root Cause / Diagnostic:
Complex long-form projects accumulate dozens of disabled clips, hidden graphic tracks, and orphan audio assets over multiple revision cycles. These dormant assets consume timeline processing cache, clutter visual organization, and create severe risks where muted clips are accidentally re-enabled or exported into final mastering passes. This lack of timeline hygiene makes version auditing nearly impossible.

Actionable Fix:
1. Duplicate the final sequence into an archive bin and run a project cleanup pass, deleting all disabled clips (Shift+E / D) and unused tracks.
2. Consolidate active video onto the minimum necessary tracks (e.g., V1 for primary, V2 for cutaways, V3 for graphics) using the 'Simplify Sequence' or track cleanup tool.
3. Export an XML/EDL of the cleaned timeline to confirm that only active, verified media assets remain referenced in the project structure.

Pro Tip:
Color-code scratch/temporary tracks in dark gray and lock them immediately; once an edit is approved, delete all gray assets before beginning the color and audio finishing passes.
