Root Cause / Diagnostic:
Reversing clip speed without explicitly unlinking or muting attached production audio forces the editor to play backwards audio tracks, creating screeching reverse transients and phase artifacts. Even when reversed audio is turned down, low-frequency reversed audio remnants can leak into audio buses or trigger compressor sidechains. This auditory pollution muddies the dialogue mix and distracts the listener.

Actionable Fix:
1. Unlink audio from the video clip (Ctrl/Cmd+L) and delete or disable (mute) the attached audio track before applying reverse speed (-100%).
2. Source a dedicated reverse whoosh, cymbal swell, or musical riser sound effect to intentionally score the reverse motion rather than relying on reversed production sound.
3. Check the master audio mixer meters to verify that the reverse-speed section outputs 0 dBFS on production audio channels.

Pro Tip:
When executing reverse-speed shots, duplicate the video clip, apply reverse speed, and apply a 3-frame cross-dissolve at the transition point to mask any temporal shutter angle discrepancies.
