Freeze-frame segments inherit the wrong color-management transform from the source clip.

Problem

Freeze-frame segments inherit the wrong color-management transform from the source clip.

Solution

Root Cause / Diagnostic:
Creating a freeze-frame or frame hold from a source clip often generates a static graphic asset that bypasses the color management pipeline (ACES, DaVinci YRGB Color Managed, or Lumetri Color) applied to the parent media. If the frame hold is treated as a standard sRGB or Rec.709 still instead of inheriting the source camera's Log profile, the freeze-frame displays mismatched gamma, oversaturated colors, or clipped highlights. This color jump is immediately visible at the cut point.

Actionable Fix:
1. Generate freeze-frames using the NLE's native 'Frame Hold' or 'Time Freeze' timeline tool rather than exporting an external still image file.
2. If using an exported still frame, manually assign the identical source color profile and input LUT (e.g., Sony S-Gamut3.Cine/S-Log3) in clip interpretation settings.
3. Toggle playback across the cut point between live motion and the freeze frame, confirming identical RGB waveform scope readings.

Pro Tip:
Apply all primary color grading at the track or adjustment layer level above the freeze-frame edit to ensure absolute photometric consistency across the transition.
