A workstation's boot SSD reaches endurance limits because render caches were mistakenly configured on it for months.

Solution

Root Cause / Diagnostic:
Default NLE preferences routinely set render cache, scratch audio, and optical flow files to the user's primary OS boot drive (`C:\` or `Macintosh HD`). Generating hundreds of gigabytes of temporary ProRes/DNx caches daily rapidly consumes consumer TLC boot drive endurance, exhausting TBW limits within 6–12 months.

Actionable Fix:
1. Scratch Disk Path Reallocation: Open Premiere Pro / DaVinci Resolve preferences and explicitly redirect Media Cache, Scratch Disks, and Optimized Media to a dedicated secondary high-endurance NVMe drive.
2. Legacy Cache Deletion: Purge existing accumulated cache files from `~/Library/Application Support/` or `%APPDATA%` to recover hundreds of gigabytes on the boot volume.
3. SMART TBW Endurance Audit: Check the boot drive using CrystalDiskInfo or `smartctl` to evaluate the remaining lifetime percentage and assess whether drive replacement is necessary.

Check your NLE preferences today: if your cache directory is still set to your system boot drive, you are quietly burning through your computer's primary SSD lifespan.
