Solution

Root Cause / Diagnostic:
Disconnecting a storage volume without unmounting leaves the filesystem's "dirty bit" set in the partition superblock. Upon subsequent connection, the OS automatically locks the drive to run `fsck` or `chkdsk` in the background, making the volume appear unresponsive or broken to the user.

Actionable Fix:
1. Terminal FSCK Process Termination / Monitoring: Monitor the active filesystem check via terminal (`ps aux | grep fsck`), allowing it to complete cleanly rather than unplugging the drive again.
2. Manual Filesystem Clearance: Run `sudo fsck_exfat -y /dev/diskXsY` (macOS) or `chkdsk X: /f` (Windows) to resolve inconsistencies and clear the dirty flag cleanly.
3. Safe Removal Workflow Enforcement: Train operators to always verify the "Volume Successfully Ejected" operating system notification before physically removing data cables.
