A contractor delivers source project files as part of the agreement, but the contract language does not specify whether editable project assets and plugins are included.

Problem

A contractor delivers source project files as part of the agreement, but the contract language does not specify whether editable project assets and plugins are included.

Solution

Root Cause / Diagnostic:
Contractual language stating 'project files included' is fundamentally ambiguous regarding commercial third-party plugins, licensed stock music, and proprietary MOGRTs. When a creator opens a project file missing third-party dependencies, missing-font errors and broken render effects cause frustration.

Actionable Fix:
1. Explicitly enumerate in the contract deliverables: Adobe Premiere .prproj or DaVinci Resolve .drp, consolidated native media, non-proprietary graphics, and an exact list of required paid third-party plugins.
2. Mandate the use of 'Project Manager' (Premiere) or 'Archive Project' (Resolve) to package self-contained, rendered-out pre-comps for proprietary or paid plugin effects.
3. Include an editable asset manifest document listing font licenses, stock audio license IDs, and plugin version numbers required to open the project without broken links.

Pro Tip:
Provide rendered high-bitrate ProRes 4444 alpha exports for all complex plugin-based effects so the recipient can modify the edit without purchasing expensive proprietary plugins.
