Solution

Root Cause / Diagnostic:
Edit Decision Lists (EDLs) are 50-year-old single-track text specifications incapable of interpreting dynamic speed ramps, opacity blends, picture-in-picture scaling, or plugin transforms.

Actionable Fix:
1. Migrate from EDL to Modern XML or AAF: Use FCPXML or Avid AAF formats that natively translate variable speed timing and spatial transform metadata.
2. Provide a Split-Screen Offline Reference Movie: Render a low-resolution ProRes/H.264 video of the locked cut with burned-in timecode (BITC) for side-by-side conform verification.
3. Bake or Flag Variable Speed Ramps: Render complex time-remapped clips as high-bitrate mezzanine files (ProRes 422 HQ) and place them on an upper track prior to export.

Pro Tip:
For any shot with a variable speed ramp, bake the retimed clip to ProRes 422 HQ and place it directly on track V2 with the original raw clip muted underneath on V1 for conform safety.
