Multi-Platform Repurposing, Aspect Ratios & Content Syndication

A media library stores social exports without recording source timecode ranges, so editors cannot trace a short clip back to the exact master edit.

Problem

A media library stores social exports without recording source timecode ranges, so editors cannot trace a short clip back to the exact master edit.

Solution

Root Cause / Diagnostic:
Disassociating repurposed social clips from master timeline timecodes destroys content provenance. When viewers question a claim, a sponsor requests proof of placement, or legal requires an immediate segment retraction, editors waste hours scrubbing through multi-hour recordings trying to locate the original context.

Actionable Fix:
1. Log source in/out timecodes in an Asset Management database (Airtable, Frame.io, or CatDV) for every social clip generated (e.g., Clip 04: TC In 00:14:22:10 - TC Out 00:15:08:18).
2. Embed the source timecode range directly into the export file metadata comments field and filename (e.g., Ep12_Clip04_TC001422-001508.mp4).
3. Audit asset registry entries to confirm that clicking the timecode link opens the corresponding master timeline position instantly.

Pro Tip:
Use EDL or XML marker exports from your NLE: export a sequence marker list where each marker duration represents a social clip, preserving frame-accurate source timecodes in a lightweight text file.
