Dark gradients and low-key cinematic shadows possess minimal visual entropy, causing lossy 8-bit encoders to aggressively truncate fine luminance gradations into broad, stepped quantizer bands (macroblock contouring). When syndicated files undergo secondary transcoding on social platforms, this quantization truncation is amplified, turning smooth dark transitions into stair-stepped posterization.

Actionable Fix:
1. Add a subtle layer of organic 35mm film grain or digital dither (1–2% opacity monochromatic noise) across shadow zones in the NLE master to break up flat luminance steps.
2. Export the initial master in 10-bit color depth (ProRes 422 10-bit or H.264 Main 10 Profile) before preparing final platform upload files.
3. Test shadow transitions on an OLED mobile display at 50% screen brightness to verify that near-black gradients transition smoothly without stair-stepped banding.

Pro Tip:
